Whether you run a travel and trekking website, a handicraft business, or any online store, you may want to accept international credit card payments.

Having said that, in Nepal, only a few banks provide a way to integrate payment gateways into the website – Himalayan Bank, Nabil Bank, NIC Asia Bank and NIMB Bank.

If you do not have a Merchant account with any of these banks, I’d recommend choosing Himalayan Bank for their responsiveness in Technical Support.

1) Himalayan Bank

In 2017 September, Himalayan Bank introduced its E-Commerce Payment Gateway. You can read their announcement here. Here’s an extract on their release:

Himalayan Bank Limited is pleased to announce the new release of its E-Commerce Payment Gateway. Merchants and customers, both domestic and international,will now be able to buy and sell products and services online using their debit/credit cards

While they provide a way of integrating their payment gateway to sell products and services online – the configuration and setup are not as straightforward as anyone would like. You need to hire a developer to integrate the payment gateway into your website.

To make your life easier, we’ve developed a Himalayan Bank For WooCommerce plugin which is a plug-and-play. You do not need to hire a developer or write any custom codes. It’s also cost-effective in comparison to hiring a developer to integrate payment for you.

However, the product only works for WordPress built websites and you should have WooCommerce as well.

2) Nabil Bank

Nabil Bank provides a One Link Payment service, which enables you to receive online payments from customers using cards. This service involves a quick and secure payment system utilized by Merchants like you. In this process, a predetermined amount is established and subsequently, a link is generated through a dashboard. This link is then shared with customers, enabling them to initiate the transaction payment.

While I haven’t experienced Nabil Bank’s payment gateway. the membership fee is NRS. 10000/- billed annually. There’s also a transaction fee of 2% if paid via Nabil Bank cards, 3% for cards issued by other banks in Nepal, and 3.75% for international cards.

3) NIC Asia Bank

NIC Asia Bank recently offered CyberSource – which is an American payment gateway solution. If you already have an Account with NIC Asia Bank, this is probably the best option for you. They also offer a free WordPress plugin if your site is built with WordPress.

This looks more neat and easier to set up compared to others.

4) NIMB Bank

NIMB bank also recently introduced its International payment gateway. Learn More.

While for now, these are the only banks that offer payment gateways for international payments, if you would like to set up domestic payment gateways, here are the fee payment gateways plugins for Nepal. Note that though, all the plugins are developed to work on WordPress websites with WooCommerce setup only.
